Hammonton, NJ – The Good for Life Wellness Center held its 2nd Annual HERO Campaign/John's Law Awareness Event for the HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers®. Students from Hammonton High School’s Honor Society, the Hammonton Police Department, the Hammonton Drug Alliance and the Camden River Sharks, participated in the promotional and fundraising event held on Saturday, March 15, 2008. The Honor Society students helped promote the HERO Campaign and accept donations at the Wawa food market store on Rte. 54, and at other stores, including Bagliani's, Shop Rite and Trina's. The students raised more than $500 for the campaign. The Elliott family created the HERO Campaign in memory of their son, Navy Ensign John R. Elliott, who was killed by a drunken driver in July, 2000. At the Good for Life Wellness Center the Elliotts thanked students and organizers of the event and encouraged them to establish a HERO Chapter at Hammonton High and make Hammonton a HERO Community. The Hammonton Police Department also invited students to participate in an impaired driving demonstration using “fatal vision” goggles. The Camden River Sharks donated a pair of tickets to each student who participated as a thank you for assisting. Other sponsors included Hammonton, Brothers Pizza and the Philly Pretzel Factory. # # # |
